A would-be robber was killed Tuesday night during a robbery attempt at the Food Zone at Livingston and Old Fort Roads in Fort Washington.

Officer Larry Johnson, a Prince George’s County police spokesman, says two male suspects entered the convenience store around 9:20 p.m.  One of them displayed a handgun.

A struggle ensued between the store owner and the armed man.  At some point the suspect dropped the gun, and the store owner was able to use it to shot and fatally wound the suspect.  Police later identified him as Leon Abney, 32, of the 4300 block of E St SE in Washington D.C.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.  The other suspect fled without obtaining anything.
