Power Paws Assistance Dogs is a nonprofit organization located in Scottsdale. Their mission is to provide highly trained assistance dogs to children and adults with disabilities, to provide ongoing support to working assistance dog teams and to be a resource in the community for people with disabilities.

They train Golden Retrievers and Labrador Retrievers in 90 commands to help with things such as opening and closing doors and drawers, retrieving dropped items, and pulling a wheelchair.  Their volunteer puppy raisers take the puppies at 7 weeks of age and under our training and guidance, train them for approximately 18 months.  At that time the dogs are returned to Power Paws and undergo a 2 week training program with a person with a disability. They are currently accepting applications for puppy raisers.

The cost of raising one assistance dog is $20,000.  They rely on community financial support to keep the cost to their clients to $5,000 for an assistance dog.  Please join them for Canine Thunder and help them “Empower People for Independence!”
