Ruff Life: Monday, March 9 & 16

Learn all about the Ruff Life of our domestic canine companions through hands-on encounters with AAWL’s furry friends. Campers will learn the fundamentals of positive reinforcement and see how fun training your dog can be, practicing training skills with our shelter dogs. The fun doesn’t stop at “sit, stay and down,” as former rescues, our education dogs, will demonstrate the sport of dog agility. Your child will then get to experience it for themselves, by running a relay race through an agility course.

Scales and Tails: Tuesday, March 10 & 17

How can a snake swallow food bigger than its head? How can a frog jump 10 times its body length? During hands on encounters and a special visit from Phoenix Herpetological Society, we’ll answer these questions and more in order to better understand these amazing, scaly and slithering creatures.

JR Vets to the Rescue: Wednesday, March 11 & 18

Through presentation, demonstrations, laboratories, and hands-on activities, campers will discover what modern veterinary medicine is all about. Campers will also get an exclusive, behind-the-scenes tour of our infirmary, and get to observe on-site veterinary staff hard at work in our clinic. It’s so much fun; you may not even realize you’re learning!

The Cats Meow: Thursday, March 12 & 19

Did you know that cats will only “meow” at people? Or that calico cats are almost always female? Campers will take an in-depth look at the world of cats, learning through observation and interactions with our shelter cats. Participants will also get to put their creativity to use by constructing fun toys and treats to enrich the lives of their new feline friends.

Mammal Mania: Friday, March 13 & 20

Mammals come in all sizes, shapes and colors. They’re in the sky, in the water and on the ground. These furry critters are the most common type of pet found in households across the world, but not all pet owners realize the specific care that these animals require. We’ll be learning about these fuzzy friends and how to properly care for them through hands on interactions, games, and crafts.

Camp Ruffin' It is convenient for parents who work in and around downtown Phoenix. The camp is held at the AAWL/SPCA facility at 30 N. 40th Place in central Phoenix, near 40th Street and Washington. In addition, Camp Ruffin' It program proceeds benefit the AAWL/SPCA's adoption programs for homeless animals.
