Get to know the city of Rochester by reading interviews with the Rochester Examiners. Today, let's see what Sally Bacchetta has to say...
How long have you lived in Rochester?
My family moved to the area in 1972. I've lived West (Churchville), right in (Park Ave.), and East (Webster), where I've lived for 11 years.
What are your favorite school-related memories from Rochester? I often think about my favorite teachers, one of whom was Charlotte Randall, my third-grade teacher at Fairbanks Rd. elementary. Years later, I had a Pennysaver paper route through Churchville, and I realized that Mrs. Randall's house was on my route. One fall day I wrote a note to Mrs. Randall on a large yellow-orange maple leaf I picked up in her yard. I told her in the note that she had changed me for the better at a very impressionable time in my life. I said I wanted her to know that I thought of her often, and that she taught me some things about myself that no one else had, and those lessons were priceless to me. I never heard back from Mrs. Randall, nor did I expect to. Mrs. Randall passed away when I was in college. Shortly afterward my parents ran into Mrs. Randall's son, who asked them to tell me that Mrs. Randall had kept my leaf note on her nightstand until her death. He said it meant so much to her and thrilled her to know how she had touched one of her young students. It's one of my favorite memories.
