  Warren County Wine Train (NJ)

A wine train?  In NEW JERSEY?  You better believe it!  The Warren County Wine Train is operated by Delaware River Railroad Excursions located in Phillipsburg, New Jersey, and, is a not-for-profit operation that is staffed completely by volunteers.

Climb aboard a steam engine and sit-back, relax, and, enjoy the train ride plus a trip to two of New Jersey's own vineyards.  Your $40 per person ticket includes: your train ride, shuttle bus between the train and the vineyards, a vineyard tour, and, a free wine glass from each of two wineries visited:  Villa Milagro and Alba Vineyards.  Feel free to bring a long your own snack or lunch.

Villa Milagro is one of just two vineyards on the entire East coast that is a organic vineyard.  The owners, Steve and Audrey Gambino, are hands-on owners (along with some four legged helpers), and, the tour consists of educating visitors about organic grape growing from insects to disease control.  It is truly fascinating and informative.

Your visit to Alba Vineyards takes you to the tiny village of Finesville, New Jersey.  In the 190 year old restored barn you will be delighted as you explore the showroom which is also the tasting room.  Additionally, small gifts are available for purchase and adjoining the building is the Musconetcong Gallery which exhibits of artwork of both prominent and local artists.  Admission is free and all works are available for purchase.

Both vineyards offer the opportunity to purchase wine from their respective stores.  Space is provided on the bus for all purchases and the crew is readily available to help.

The entire experience is roughly 4 hours in length.  Departure time is 11:00 AM.  Tickets are available on line and the train last run of the season takes place on November 1, 2009.
