Susan Boyle is back, video, Britain's Got Talent
Susan Boyle on Britain's Got Talent

In love, marriage, and life, there are ups and downs.  Sometimes we love our man.  Sometimes love boils over into fury.  But if we hold onto the concept of our relationship, our marriage, the vision of togetherness, we can survive and succeed.  What is key is our vision of love, holding onto our dream. Susan Boyle held onto her dream.

We have here Susan singing with the Britain's Got Talent tour in Birmingham, UK.  (However, according to Fox News, she has pulled out of the second tour stop in Manchester. Fox News.com) We are confident that once again she will rebound.)

She perseveres as long so often does

Susan Boyle's world seem to come crashing down a few weeks ago, but she obviously held onto her dream. So often in love relationships when we hit a rocky road, we lose patience. Instead of focusing on our vision, our love, we continue down a path or anger and complaint.

In Joseph Campbell’s  The Power of Myth he called ”loyalty” the essence of marriage — “not cheating, not defecting — through whatever trials or suffering, you remain true.”

Susan Boyle set that standard in terms of her vision for herself, her song.  We can follow her dedication and translate her love of music -- and its ups and downs -- to our love within a relationship.

Loyalty as the essence of marriage:

In addition to his book, Professor Campbell appeared on a PBS Special with Bill Moyers. In talking about love and marriage, Bill Moyers added:  “The Puritans call marriage the little church within the church.  In marriage, every day you love, and every day you forgive.  It is an ongoing sacrament — love and forgiveness.”

Professor Campbell said: “The real life of a marriage or a true love affair is in the relationship…. Marriage is the symbolic recognition of our identity  — two aspects of the same being.”

If one thinks about marriage as two aspects of the same being then you owe it to yourself and the life of your love to hold onto the vision of  ”happily ever after.”
