UGA Rider Dog Kate Stewart, co-captain of the 2009 national championship Rider Dog squad, and Nichole Grant, concluding her second season at UGA after transferring to Athens from Penn State, represented the University of Georgia at the National Collegiate Reining Championship in Oklahoma City on Saturday, June 27. They were the only school to have two riders in the 12-rider event.
Stewart has been chosen for the prestigious event for three consecutive years; this was Grant’s first time at the NCRC.
Stewart, with a 212.00, finished in fourth place; Grant, with a 211.00, finished in seventh.
Stewart was on Guns Chiquita Chex, owned by Jessicah Torpey of Princeton, KY; Grant rode Colonels Smokin Bueno, owned by Bill Bradley of Mt. Sterling, KY.
Both athletes concluded their UGA riding careers with the Reining Championship.
"I can't say enough about the way that Kate and Nichole represented Georgia and our program," UGA assistant coach Logan Fiorentino said in a press statement following the event. "The group of competitors was the best of the best, the top reiners in the country. It was a great way to cap off their careers."
