Georgia 34 Vanderbilt 10
University of Georgia head coach Mark Richt stated earlier this week that his team needed the momentum of a win v. Vanderbilt as the Bulldogs approach their bye week and an always-anticipated trip to Jacksonville on Halloween. They got their win, but did they get the energizing momentum they will need to face the Gators?
Traveling to Jacksonville imparts an energy in itself—there is no doubt the energy will be there. Momentum? Well, coming off a win against an SEC team is the best momentum one could ask for, even if it was Vanderbilt. Yes, a Tennessee win followed by a Vandy win would have been a much better confidence builder, but we must work with what we have.
The bottom line is that Georgia will have to be at their best when they face the almighty Tim Tebow and company. Quarterback Joe Cox has to be accurate—Florida will take advantage of anything Cox throws their way, literally. Tebow is a running QB, but the pass will be deadly, as well, if coverage does not come together, and tightly. Foolish penalties will send offensive progress into the toilet, and will revive almost-contained Gator drives. And, of course, the Dawgs must run—go, go, go, then go some more.
There was some decent offense today, and the defense did their job. But, today was Vanderbilt. “Decent” is not enough to get into the fray with Florida.
Georgia will have a bye week next week, and will face the Florida Gators on Saturday, October 31. They are scheduled to kick off at 3:30 p.m. (EST) in Jacksonville on CBS.
