The Tennessee Volunteers took the Georgia Bulldogs to the house today, picking up their first SEC win and solidly defeating UGA. Both teams are unranked, but the game was a pivotal one for the Bulldogs, who were hoping to stay in the championship chase by adding another SEC win.
The only good point about today, really—other than time running out—was punter Drew Butler, who seems to be able to put the ball anywhere it needs to go. Kicker Blair Walsh has had a good season, as well, and did put points up on the board for the Dawgs today. But, overall, the game was just badly played by Georgia. The defense did not play well. Penalties were high. The offense had a poor game, with half the total yardage of the Vols and only 89 rushing yards. Quarterback Joe Cox was interception-happy once again, his double misfires leading to 10 of Tennessee’s 45 points. And, rounding out Georgia's three turnovers was a Cox-Michael Moore connection, resulting in a fumble and another Volunteer touchdown drive.
Next week, the Dawgs again travel to Tennessee for an SEC showdown, but this time their opponent is found in Nashville. Georgia v. Vanderbilt is scheduled to kick off at 12:30 p.m. (EST) on the SEC Network.
