U.S. Representative Paul Broun (R-GA)

Last Friday I wrote about how fascism belongs to leftist ideology.   Obviously I’m not the only person who thinks that – after all, Jonah Goldberg wrote a book about it (if you haven’t read it you are really missing out).  Today I noticed a Georgia Republican taking the argument straight to the President.

Paul Broun, a Georgia Republican, has made similar statements before.  Last November, the U.S. Representative compared Obama’s desire for a well-funded internal security force to actions taken by Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union.

Of course Broun’s remarks were completely dismissed as right-wing rants but this time around Broun refers to actions taken by the new president.  “He has the three things that are necessary to establish an authoritarian government,” he said, referring to control over the press, gun control, and the aforementioned internal police force.

While this may sound like an outlandish charge to many, I believe it deserves paying attention to.  All the major broadcast television news outlets, save one, regularly parrot Obama’s policies.  CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, and NBC all portrayed the town hall protests as “outrageous” and were quick to repeat Nancy Pelosi’s allegations that “operatives” wore swastikas even though anyone watching the meetings themselves knew the charges were complete fabrications.

Obama has said that gun control is on the backburner for now.  Eric Holder, the Attorney General, said in February that he wants to renew the ban on assault weapons.  I suppose the Obama administration has enough on their hands for now as they try to tax us into driving Smart Cars and living in caves while they force socialized medicine on us all.

Many guess at what the internal security forces could be.  Obama said during the campaign that he wanted one “just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded” as our military forces.  Certainly there isn’t anything on the horizon receiving this kind of funding, or strength, just yet but there are certainly politicized armies available to his disposal.

I regularly read “news releases” from Acorn and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) – two groups known to be Obama’s political foot soldiers.  Acorn hasn’t made a lot of waves recently, the regular bad press following the elections put a muzzle on them for awhile, but SEIU is at the forefront of the health care debate.

And then there are the czars...appointed leaders to positions of unchecked power.  Nothing is mentioned in the Constitution about them and, yes, other presidents have had them but no one has appointed as many as Obama.  Obama’s 42 czars are from the radical fringe of the left.  We’ve heard about Van Jones, the avowed communist, and Mark Lloyd the “Chief Diversity Officer” at the FCC who has expressed his love for Hugo Chavez, the Venezuelan dictator.

How could Obama appoint people like this?  Why would he appoint people like this?  Obama knew the czars wouldn’t pass Congressional scrutiny.  Broun says it’s to create a shadow government operating outside the bounds of the Constitution.  Call him nuts if you want but stop and think – what is Obama doing appointing all these czars without Congressional scrutiny?

The Republicans are regularly charged with expanding state powers as well.  We all remember the Patriot Act and the outcry over its provisions.  Obama renewed it in March.

That’s what scares me the most about the Obama presidency.  The Democrats will make power grabs under the guise of health care reform and climate change and then the next Republican president won’t undo them.

Isn’t it time we did away with the two-party system?
