Since you might have to make many apologies this summer for any blackouts due to extreme over-partying or raucous behavior, here are a few tips on how to make a sincere summer apology:

  1. Never rely on e-mail or text for a genuine apology -- it's not personal enough. It's as if you're saying "I owe you an apology, but I'm too chicken to actually go through with it."
  2. If you feel you must send a quick e-mail/text to apologize as fast as possible, let your recipient know that you'll be calling or dropping by to apologize in person -- and then follow up.
  3. Apologies are best if accompanied with a gift.  You may have to do some snooping to find what to give...
  4. Say your "sorries" as soon as possible.  Don't let lingering hurts fester into an emotional meltdown.
  5. Abandon your pride when it is time to apologize.  Nothing is worse than an apology full of contempt.

Hopefully, your summer behavior won't lead to any apologies...but if it should...you now know what to do!
