"Bicycling is human scale- a living, breathing alternative to the city's domination by motor vehicles. There is magic in blending with traffic, feeling the wind in one's face, the sheer fact of traversing the city under one's own power."
Charles Komanoff, cycling advocate
It stands to reason that commuters, in an effort to keep as much of their money as the IRS allows, will search for an alternative means of transportation in the quest to earn that money. Now it seems, a pilot program from Spain is in full swing, placing rental bikes in our capitol, and it seems to be taking off. Is Baltimore far behind?
In addition to saving money, these new cyclists are losing weight and getting in shape out of necessity. Soon they’ll be saving more money when they cancel their gym memberships too, easily covering the $40 annual rental fee. Now that this seems to be coming into vogue, I find it interesting that I published a piece of short fiction titled Mandate, on this very thing a year and a half ago. Perhaps Oscar Wilde is right. Life does imitate art.
