Candidates are never at a loss to speak to something in an election year, but since the announcement of Sarah Palin as McCain’s #1, the order of rhetoric has attained absurd levels. Barring the vicious yet transparent condemnation toward both party hopefuls, based on nothing more than biased writer’s imaginations, or below-the-belt attacks on mutually agreed untouchable non-players, both sides employ the same point counter-point, thrust and parry, I know you are—but what am I, tactics. Nay, they’ve actually reduced themselves to stealing each other’s issues, with international inexperience and executive chops being the two main points both espouse.
As I see it, neither can claim an advantage in those areas. Neither have an ounce of international relations in their résumés, and Palin’s executive experience may total a bit more than Obama’s, but it’s nearly a wash. Therefore, what we end up with are news organizations and party loyalists that enjoy beating dead horses at the perceived expense of the other. These are non-issues, since they nearly cancel each other out. So, let’s examine the real issue.
Regardless of who wins the Presidency; if anything happens to Obama and Biden, or McCain and Palin; we’ll be stuck with Pelosi. Then, we’ll be in real trouble.
