Are Pelosi and Pickens in Bed?

August 21, 5:11 PM

You pull into your favorite gas station on your morning commute to work and smile. The price for regular unleaded is $3.56. Enjoy it while it lasts. It won’t be around for long.

What’s worse, though, is we do enjoy it. Anything under four bucks is great. That’s how we felt about $3, and $2, and $1. Remember? We pay through the nose for gas, and Congress does nothing. They’ve done nothing in two congressional sessions. What do you think would happen, if you did nothing when you went to work?

So, with Bush doing his part by lifting the ban on offshore drilling, and the majority of the American people clamoring for Congress to do the same, what does Congress do? They go on vacation and leave us to fend for ourselves. And why shouldn’t they? We are, after all, just the rapidly dwindling middle class, just a bunch of nobodies.

I had to ask myself where Congress gets the stones to take vacation, abandoning a vote on offshore drilling, while the American people are fighting for their economic lives; in effect thumbing its nose in utter distain and contempt for the people who put them where they are ... in the seat of American royalty. The answer to that question came in an email.

Brian Wilson, the noon to three talk show host for 105.7 FM, sent me an interesting bit of news that I would like to share, since none of the major networks saw fit to report it. According to Scott White of #dontgomovement.com, Madam Speaker Pelosi took it upon herself to adjourn Congress before they could bring offshore drilling up for a vote. Apparently, the motivating factor was greed.

According to White, “It would appear that the driving force behind Madam Speaker’s quick and forceful adjournment of Congress is money. According to Michigan Taxes Too Much blog, Madam Speaker has a substantial amount of money invested in Clean Energy Fuels Corporation. Clean Energy Fuels Corporation is a business venture started by none other than T. Boone Pickens.”

T. Boone Pickens? Isn’t he a good guy? Isn’t he the guy who wants to “...break the strangle hold...” of foreign oil? Sure he is. His companies have made billions. And Pelosi knows it. If you want to see for yourself, White asks you to “CLICK HERE for Madam Speaker’s financial disclosures for 2007. The purchase of CLNE appears on page 7 of the document.”

I have nothing against Pickens making money by taking advantage of a golden opportunity. That’s what entrepreneurs do in a capitalist economy. However, I do have a problem with an elected official, a very powerful elected official, intentionally using her authority for personal gain at the expense of the poor, misguided, fools who put her in office, along with the rest of us fools, who didn’t.

I said it before and I’ll say it again. WE run this country. We should start acting like it. Come 2010, when a third of the Senate and the entire House is up for re-election, WE should vote the incumbents out of the Senate. I’m sure the House, and the Senators who are left when the dust clears, will get the message.

Someone suggested to me the other day that there should be prerequisites in regard to running for political office; the first being, if someone wants to run for office, they should be disqualified.

There should be one term, period. If that were the case, they’d spend their time working for the people, instead of campaigning for RE-election, and being a politician would no longer be a life-long career.
