It's important to keep our fingers on the "moral pulse" of not only our own culture, but that of other countries.
In Saudi Arabia, Mazen Abdul-Jawad, has been sentenced to five years in prison and 1,000 lashes for talking publicly about sex.
Abdul-Jawad bragged about his sexual exploits on a satellite TV talk show aired by the LBC in July. In the show, called "Bold Red Line," Abdul-Jawad described losing his virginity at 14, and also showed off blurred sex toys. He was joined by three male friends for a discussion on what turns them on, according to the Associated Press.
The other two men were sentenced to two years in prison, and 500 lashes each.
The public discussion of sex is taboo is Saudi Arabia, and over 200 complaints were filed by viewers. The LBC TV station offices in Saudi Arabia have been closed.
We shudder to think of how many people would be sent to prison and assigned lashes (yours truly included) if Saudi laws were suddenly assumed in the US.
