John Monacelli, 45, has been charged with six felony counts of sexual exploitation of a client while serving as a therapist.
In October 2007 Monacelli, who worked for a Wisconsin drug rehab facility, during individual counseling with a male resident encouraged the sex-abuse advisor to relive his sexual exploitation. He reasoned "the only way to get rid of the past is to relive it and realize that it was not that bad." Part of the "therapy" involved requiring the male patient to perform oral sex on him.
This wasn't the only case of predatory behavior that authorities uncovered. Monacelli also preyed upon a female patient. During these sessions he asked the patient to describe previous sexual encounters. He then kissed and fondled the patient and had her stroke his exposed penis. The patient also revealed that he had sex with her during numerous therapy sessions.
Counselors at the facility noticed that Monacelli was spending disproportionate amounts of time with this female patient and said that he appeared to be fixated on her. The suspicions resulted in the facility conducting investigations which uncovered his illegal behavior.
Monacelli will attend a hearing January 5th 2009. If convicted he will face up to 100 years in prison and $200,000 in fines.
