Though Sookie Stackhouse may have a passion for her vampire boyfriend's blood on the hit show True Blood the real life actress who plays her, Anna Paquin, could never be a vampire because she is a vegetarian. The diminutive actress credits her curvy, yet slender physique to a strict vegetarian diet and vigorous one to two hour work out sessions that include strength training and boxing.

Oscar award winner Paquin is an animal lover who eschews meat in favor of fruits, vegetables and grains. While the myth that vegetarians cannot be healthy persists, Anna and other celebrity vegetarians such as Alicia Silverstone and Alyssa Milano prove that vegetarianism is a completely sound dietary choice as long as in the quest to avoid meat you strive to maintain a healthy balanced diet.

There are several types of vegetarians. Vegans the most restrictive vegetarians eat only fruits, vegetables and grains and absolutely no products from animals. Lacto-vegetarians enjoy dairy products but they do not eat eggs or any kind of meat (including fish and poultry). Lacto-ovo vegetarians include eggs and dairy in their diet and flexitarians enjoy meat, fish or poultry on occasion. If you decide to pursue a vegetarian lifestyle you can choose any one of the lifestyles listed above and still stay quite healthy. A great tool for all vegetarians is the vegetarian pyramid; it is a handy way to ensure that all of your nutrition needs are met.
