Don't miss a milestone; Baby Photos
About six weeks after our little guy was born, I started obsessing about getting baby photos taken. I didn't want to miss a moment and I mistakenly thought that the only way to really capture his tiny-ness was with a professional photographer. I started researching and was astonished by prices of the sitting fees alone, $100-250! And that was just to have the pictures taken, getting the actual prints would at least double the whole thing. Whew, that was a little too much for us to spend. I started asking around to see what my friends had done. Their answers were as unique as they are. Some had family members or friends take the photos, some went the professional route, while others took their own.
We did a little of all that and I couldn't be happier with the results. We had a friend of my sister-in-law's take professional photos when we were visiting Scott's family when Lincoln was 10 weeks old. The images she took were amazing and everything I had hoped for. She has an artist's eye that lead to beautiful photographs. Yes, it was a small fortune once it was over (mainly due to the fact that I ordered just about every one), but I LOVE the photos.
The professional job was a once a year thing, unless we win Power Ball in the next few months (and believe me, Scott is trying). But also, because I found that I adore taking photos of my son. This is aided by the digital camera revolution. I love that we can take thousands of photos at any event. It significantly increases our likelihood of getting a good one! It's from doing this for the past seven months that I've come up with my top three ways to get great photos of your baby.
1. Go outside. Everyone says it, but it's so true. The natural light and surroundings have helped to create the best photos we've ever taken.
2. Take tons of photos. Unless you are still using film, the digital age allows for this. Again, the more you take, the more chances you have of getting a great one.
3. Simple is best. This is especially true with babies, because the focus of your picture is the most perfect subject, you don't need much else.
4. Go classic. Turn those simple, classic baby photos into a black and white print using your computers photo software. It's easy to do (usually) and really changes the feel of the photos.
Hopefully these tips can help anyone capture those precious moments with their babies. Regardless of whether you go the professional route or take them yourself I'm sure they will be perfect. How do I know? Those babies are perfect, that's how I know!
