Having Fun on the 4th: remember fireworks safety
POSTED July 4, 12:10 AM

I love fireworks.

They make me smile without meaning to and they still the constant chatter in my mind.  Even though I am likely past the halfway point of my life, they still strike me as magical.

If you like fireworks as much as I do, I suggest that you visit a professional display rather than playing around with the hand held ones.  Both legal and illegal individual fireworks can be dangerous, and it would be a shame to ruin your holiday with burns, hand injuries or blindness.   Only ground sparklers and simple sparklers are legal in Maryland.  Yet even the simple, pretty hand held sparklers can set a little girl’s dress on fire.

Illegal fireworks, which some people bring home from Pennsylvania or Virginia, can be even more dangerous.  If they malfunction or explode prematurely, you might lose a hand, suffer a serious burn or lose your sight.  Don’t risk it.  Children are the most common victims of fireworks injuries.

There are many professional fireworks displays in Maryland that are fun and safe.  Make sure to be safe wherever you go to celebrate.

Happy 4th!

Fire safety: You may not be as prepared as you think
POSTED May 28, 11:33 PM
