One lucky bounce, a well placed pass, and then one firm left-footed shot a second later, and the inglorious goalless streak for the Kansas City Wizards was over. 90 minutes later and the Wizards did something it hadn't done since June 13; it won a MLS match.

"We all looked at these nine days as a chance to have fun and get some points," Wolff said. "We've been dismal. We've been miserable for the last two months and we can only go up."

The Wizards beat the New England Revolution 4-2 Saturday night with goals from forwards Claudio Lopez and Josh Wolff. The win brings Kansas City's record to 6-10-6, and drops New England to 9-7-6.

"We've been due for quite some time now and I think it's sort of a monkey off the team's back," interim head coach Peter Vermes said. "More importantly, I think the guys got rewarded for some good play today and making the commitment to get forward."

The Wizards were able to get the first goal when the team held strong in the defensive third and then had a quick counter that led to Claudio's goal three minutes into the game.

"We had to create a foundation, getting the early goal put us into a position today where we sort of could be out in front," Vermes said, "and take a little bit of the pressure off."

Twenty minutes later, New England's Shalrie Joseph was ejected from the game and the Revolution scored an own goal. The Wizards went into half with a 2-0 goal lead for the first time in two and half months.

In the second half, the Revolution scored in the 67th minute but Josh Wolff answered quickly for the Wizards with the first of his two goals. With his second goal in stoppage time, Wolff tallied his third multi-goal game this season.

"I think our connection and passing was a little bit better, our coordination off the ball with the runs was a bit better," Wolff said. "It's been a long time coming, and it's satisfying but obviously its just one game, and hopefully we can build on it."

And build quickly as Kansas City has its next game this Wednesday when they take on D.C. United (7-5-12) Wednesday night.
