Actress Kate Winslet has been awarded $40,000 in damages from Britain's Daily Mail after the online paper issued false statements saying Winslet had lied about her workout routine.
The Titanic star, while not appearing in court, issued a statement to the court conveying the ordeal had caused a "great deal of distress" to the 34-year-old star for more than just one reason.
E! News states in their report of the story, not only was Kate distraught because the story was "simply not true," but it also tarnished how people would see Kate's take on female body image.
"I am delighted that the Mail have apologized for making false allegations about me," E! News quotes the actress as saying.
"I was particularly upset to be accused of lying about my exercise regime and felt that I had a responsibility to request an apology in order to demonstrate my commitment to the views that I have always expressed about body issues including diet and exercise."
Adding, "I strongly believe that women should be encouraged to accept themselves as they are, so to suggest that I was lying was an unacceptable accusation of hypocrisy."

This isn't the first time Kate has supported healthy viewpoints in women regarding their bodies. In an interview (shown below) with the New York Times, Winslet says it's a "flag" she's been waving around for a while now.
"I"m comfortable in my own skin," Kate tell the Times Talks. "I'm comfortable with all the imperfections that I have and I don't feel the need to hide any of those things because I do think it's very important that women on-screen are portrayed as real women."
Adding, "I do believe in this thing and I'll probably wave that flag probably until the day I die."
Kate, who considers herself an "average woman" said in a recent interview with UK's Elle magazine (shown right) that while she doesn't have time to go to the gym she fits in a workout with Pilates DVD's at home.
The Mail has published a remiss on the story, stating their regret, and Kate is donating all money awarded to charity.
