MLB baseball player Sammy Sosa says he's not suffering from the same skin condition that haunted Michael Jackson.
When rumors got the run-around last week that 41-year-old Sosa had been bleaching his face, the star felt the need to clear it up. And did so last night.
After reportedly showing up at the Grammy Latino Awards ceremony in Las Vegas with a "softer, whiter" mug, before and after photos of Sammy Sosa's face hit the net.
International websites went a blaze with accusations the pro ball player had undergone facial bleaching to cover up Vitiligo - A skin condition that causes depigmentation in patches of skin.
"His health is fine," writes the New York Daily News, recapping Sosa's quote from his Spanish interview with Univision.
"I'm doing well, doing well, thanks to God. A little surprised by the tsunami of attention," the Daily News reported Sosa as saying in the first of a two-part interview.
"I use a cream to keep my skin smooth and soft. I apply it before I go to bed," he told Univision. "When I was playing for Chicago all those years, I was in the sun a lot for 1 o'clock games," said Sosa, who turns 41 tomorrow. "The flashes (from the cameras) also made my skin look lighter. I'm surprised with the controversy this has caused."
While Sosa wouldn't go into detail about the name of the cream or what's in it, he did reveal it's European and that he'd be interested in marketing the product. (Photos: Getty Images/ AP)
