Take a look at this clip from the Today's show discussing mothers who drink during playdates. These moms are called "Cocktail Moms".  " Cocktail moms" feel that they are making time to enjoy themselves with friends, wine and conversation while their children play.  Sounds dreamy doesn't it?

This idea absolutely floors me!  I understand that mothers are adults and overall responsible individuals .  What about the message to our children?  If mommy has a drink at 12:00pm, does she then get in the car and drive the children home for a nap?  Are moms counting the number of glasses that they have while socializing with other cocktail moms?

I think, it is all about a place and time for everything.  I like an occassional glass of wine or two but  I  don't see this as an appropriate experience for a park/backyard visit with friends.  My experience includes; children are running around  in every direction climbing, swinging, flipping and picking up all types of things(rocks, sticks, etc).

My three year old  (Matthew) travels at the speed of light at the playground so following him with a glass of wine really would be very messy.  In order for me to enjoy wine with friends, I would have to be able to talk with them, drink my wine without spilling and this would mean that my toddler was on his own.

If moms want to get together to socialize or have cocktails, go for it during some Mom Time but not masked as playtime with your children.  Alcohol for many is a coping mechanism to handle stress, anxiety and depression.  Weigh In.

Live fully,

Mia
