Today  let's talk about your summer plans.

The summer is here, and for most of us it means a change in routine. The children are either staying at home with you for the summer, starting some camp/school, or some combination of both. As we consider how to structure the summer days to include vacations, play dates and family reunions, ask yourself the following questions: How does this new choice or experience add value to my life? Why does this experience make sense for my family? We often make new commitments to fill the hours in the days without considering whether it is the best decision.

Taking time to evaluate our choices puts us in a better place to create experiences that we will enjoy and that are beneficial for all. I will share this story with you about my family, from a couple of summers ago. One day I was getting my son, Patrick, ready for summer camp. Each morning, we drove 20 minutes one way to get him to this terrific camp. We braved traffic and ignored our overall desire to just relax each morning without feeling rushed. We continued this way until I listened to my son describe his camping experience to his sister. He said, "Summer camp is hot and exhausting! I wish I could just stay at home."

Here we were, using the precious resources of time and money, for an experience that didn't lend any value for either my son or our family. Things that make you go HMMMMMMMMMMM! As a result of this lesson, I now ask myself these questions when creating a new routine.

This week, I ask you to evaluate the new choices you have made for your summer. Should you discover that one of your choices fails the quality experience test, then PURGE IT!

Enjoy your summer!

Live fully,

Mia
