With food prices the way they are these days, it’s difficult to keep a bounty of fresh fruits and veggies in the house anymore. We know how important fresh produce is to us and our families, but they almost seem like a luxury. One could easily drop $100 a week to provide the whole family with the “5 a day” recommendation by the American Dietetic Association.
We’ve also heard about the benefits of buying organic versus conventionally farmed produce. Who wants to serve up chemicals to their children? Of course, organic is even pricier. There are a few solutions to this dilemma, however.
--Farmer’s Markets
Here are a list of local farmer’s markets where local produce is organically grown by nearby farmers. It doesn’t get much fresher than straight from the field to the market. And the savings is spectacular in that the middle man has been cut out of the deal.

--Smaller Grocery Stores
If you’ve ever shopped Whole Foods Market, you know how fantastic the store is. Unfortunately, it’s also a bit pricey. You can check sales and run in just for those items, but if you’d rather get all your produce at once, check out the smaller versions of these types of stores that are popping up all over the place: Trader Joe’s
