WebMD reports about a study finding that two or more diet sodas a day may cause kidney functions to decline.

The study was conducted on 3,256 women that were already participating in the Nurses' Health Study. Participants reported all of their dietary information, including what they drank.

It was found that the subjects that drank two or more diet sodas per day had a 30% drop in kidney function during the study.

In the article Julie Lin, MD, MPH, assistant professor of medicine Harvard Medical School and a staff physician at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston says, "Thirty percent is considered significant."

According to the article, Maureen Storey, senior vice president of science policy for the American Beverage Association, says in a prepared statement: "It's important to remember that this is an abstract presented at an annual meeting."
