For most, the opportunity to play alongside a band such as Stars, Broken Social Scene, or Tegan & Sara would seem like a once in a lifetime chance. Yet for Canadian singer-songwriter, Gentleman Reg, playing with these remarkable bands has only been the beginning of his bright career, who describes these collaborations as, “Amazing. I’m very fortunate to have these peers around me. It’s really validating.”
With parents who were both singers, Gentleman Reg journeyed into the world of musical expression at the age of 16 when he began writing songs on the guitar. At the turn of the millennium, he embarked on his professional musical career, and released albums with Three Gut Records. After the label folded in 2005, Gentleman Reg took some time before approaching Arts & Crafts Records, “There was a long period of time between albums, I wanted to present them with something great.” After signing with Arts & Crafts in 2008, Little Buildings was released in November as an introduction to Gentleman Reg’s work. This past February, Jet Black came out, and according to Reg, “People seem to be picking up the true thing about it. People really seem to be getting it.”
Joining A Camp on his first U.S. tour, Gentlemen Reg talks about being the opening act, “As the opener, you’re always the mysterious guest; it’s always a big surprise every night.” As the tour began, Gentleman Reg talked about how, “The tour is going well. It’s my first U.S. tour which is a big deal on many levels. A Camp is the best band we could be touring with.” Don’t miss Gentleman Reg and A Camp at the Bluebird tonight!
