Fresh Herbs from today's market

It's now 8 am on a Thursday morning, time for hitting the farmers market in town.  There are several small towns linked closely together in Lake County, so almost everyday can be a market day.

Everyone should enjoy the chance to use fresh herbs when preparing a nice meal. You know those special occasions when you want everything to be and taste perfect.  Prior to conjuring up that master piece we need to shop for our selected herbs. Well, a good place to look for these items are our local farmers markets. There are several through out central Florida and you will be impressed with the freshness, variety and price of there products.  Grab your friends or family and make an outting of it.

Of coarse many of our local groceries also carry a nice selection too, still there's something about an open market place that just feels right when shopping for herbs, or produce.  Maybe it's old school shopping, the crowds, or just being under the natural light of day. So what ever county you may reside in give our local markets a shot and then you can decide for yourself.  It's a great way to spend a morning and support our local farmers markets.

 Here's is a small factoid.

An herb is the leaf part of the plant and is often used in a fresh state; such as: parsley, chives, sage, oregano, basil, thyme or rosemary to mention a few.

Also some vegetables are kind of unique because when used  fresh they too are considered an herb such as: onions, garlic, fennel, peppers, beets, celery, leeks (a cousin to the onion) spinach and tomatoes to mention the most common.

Here's a good rule of thumb; when shopping for fresh herbs or vegetables always take the time to examine them for freshness and quality.  Try to use within a few days of purchase to ensure the best aroma and flavor.                                          Click here to return to P'nut Joe
