American Rights at Work is launching a new television, print and on line ad campaign to further educate the public on the truth about the Employee Free Choice Act. These new ads come in addition to the “Hope & Change” ad campaign currently underway.
“The American people voted for hope and change is now the time for action. We must level the playing field and give workers a free choice,” said Mary Beth Maxwell, Executive Director, American Rights at Work
“The current company dominated system is not balance. It gives employers far too much power to intimidate and harass workers.”
On the opposition to EFCA:
“We expect a vigorous debate, that is one thing, but the all out assault of misinformation is another. The secret ballot argument is an attempt to distract from real issues. No matter how many times they repeat it; it does not make it true.”
Nancy Schiffer, Associate General Counsel, AFL-CIO addressed the history of current labor law. She described the EFCA as “An amendment to the existing National Labor Relations Act that makes no change, no repeal, and no amendment provision that dictates the election process.”
"Card check has been widely used since the beginning of the Act in 1935, but is subject to veto by the employer. The employer decides not the workers. EFCA give the choice to the workers by eliminating worker veto. The current NLRA never required an election except that the employer chose that path.”
An action is planned soon to deliver the million plus signatures gathered supporting the EFCA to legislators on Capitol Hill.
