Just 15 games into the season, Huff has improved on his 2007 season mark of 1 stolen base and 2006 when he didn’t record any. This kind of aggressiveness shows that his head is in the game and he’s feeling good. Or maybe it’s from some increased flexibility and shedding some bulk?
You hate to have to even grade professional athletes on effort (I’d like to just be able to expect it) but Huff gets an A so far. He is setting a good example for the youngsters, giving the fans some excitement, and he’s not conceding to a losing fate.
I’m not retiring his number or anything and I know it’s early in the season, but I’m glad he’s giving us something to watch.
Otherwise, the offense couldn’t figure out Contreras’ funky sidearm-ish dropdown delivery and didn’t have any luck with the relief crew either. I don’t remember Jose Contreras pitching with those arm angles- is this a new thing for him? In any case, you’ve got to at least be satisfied with Loewen going 6 and Johnson and Bradford shutting down the 7th, 8th, and 9th, even if they couldn’t get the run support.
