Painting by Kim Manfredi

Hoffberger Female Painters Reception: Sunday, June 14, 2:30PM

This all-female graduate school show is significant because although more women graduate with MFA degrees in the United States (11 out of 14 Hoffberger students are female) women are grossly under-represented in the art market. According to The Women's Museum, for example, only 23 percent of solo exhibitions in NYC art galleries were by female artists in 2006.

A range of abstract, figurative & representational, fantasy, conceptual, and pattern-based works will be on display at the Hoffberger Women Show, including large-scale fantastical landscapes, manga-inspired images of the ideal man from a female point of view, and blob and sack abstracts.

The artists represented are Amita Bhatt, Eo Ryoung Choi, Nina Glaser, Sarah Jacobs, Hwa Hyung Kim, Kim Manfredi, Katherine Mann, Michel Modell, Jennifer Mullins, Katherine Rohrbacher and Ye Gin Song.

Sub Basement is proud to present the artwork of the 11 emerging female artists that comprise the Hoffberger School of Painting at the Maryland Institute College of Art. The work will be on view during the months of June and July.

THE SHOW CLOSES JULY 24 2009
