Chicago culture is a blend of many cultures and cultural traditions. This week, the Italian Americans celebrate and share. Everyone is invited to attend.
In honor of Chicago’s Italian American heritage, the Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans (JCCIA) is hosting Fiera Italiana (Italian Fair) from 10 AM – 6 PM, October 5th – 9th at Daley Plaza, 50 West Washington. "The goal of Fiera Italiana is for the JCCIA to showcase the culture of Italy and the Italian American heritage to Chicagoans and visitors of Daley Plaza," says event producer Michelle Durpetti.
This outdoor festival will include food, drink and live music. The entertainment planned for each day will be during the lunch hour, between 12 noon and 1 PM. Come early and enjoy shopping, wine tasting, culinary demonstrations, and strolling performers. Several local Italian food and beverage vendors will be there, including Palermo Bakery, Rex Italian Foods, Massa Italian Cafe & Gelateria and Suparossa.
The parish of Our Lady of Mount Carmel will be represented. Members of Italidea will be available to answer questions and to distribute information about its Italian language instruction courses and school programs. The Italian Cultural Institute and the Illinois Department of Human Rights will also have representatives available.
