Vera Wang's low priced contemporary line, Vera Wang Lavender has been dropped from Bergdorf Goodman for the Spring.
Neiman Marcus used to sell her line in over 30 locations will start selling it in fewer than ten stores.
Things might get even worse for the designer in the fall, as Neiman Marcus has not placed ANY orders at all, and Saks Fifth Avenue dropped the line completey. Bergdorf will pick up the line again for fall, but that may not be enough to keep the line going.
Vera Wang had said that she is considering adjusting her pricing strategy for Lavender or licensing out the label. She might also unveil an exclusive bridge line for Saks, which means prices will fall somewhere between contemporary and luxury lines.
The line is struggling in the economic downturn mainly because of its price. The label retails for $200 to $800, which is very high for its contemporary category. Many people in the industry also say that the line is suffering because the ex-president of Prada U.S. joined the team as president of creative direction, which made the line take on a much harder aesthetic. Many people miss the lines former light, happy designs.
