With an eye towards Valentines Day, I asked Jeanne Grasso and Susan Barone of AlwaysForMe, what trends were most exciting for plus size lingerie. To be sure, there are wonderful things that will delight in plus sizes 1X-4X. Check out their website for some eye candy, www.alwaysforme.com.

After I perused alwaysforme.com and lanebryant.com, always a staple, I realized that lingerie should be thought of as a microcosm, no pun intended, for plus size fashion in general, accentuate the positive and camouflage the negative.

How to select plus size lingerie that flatters in three steps.

1.
Start with the latter, camouflage the negative. Begin by taking an honest appraisal of your body and acknowledging what you want to downplay. Look for garments that achieve the concealment you need to feel comfortable and then move on.

2.
Accentuate your prettiest, sexiest features. Pick styles that will allow you to flaunt your stuff. Choose garments that display your confidence in your cleavage, legs, derriere, or whatever – and don’t look back!

3.
Okay, here’s the fun part, use design elements to select items you love. Pay attention to color, playful prints, detail in hems and interesting finishes. Look for garments that feature support interspersed with style.

When plus size women look at clothing models, even models that purport to be plus size, it is easy to become disenchanted. We compare ourselves to the tiniest fraction of the female population. Let me assure you, real women have curves, bumps, bulges and cellulite – and don’t get thrown out of bed because of it. By the way, real men have bumps and bulges too.
