The beginning of the New Year provides us with the opportunity to create a best feature. Think how good people look when they have a tan! The look can be created in a matter of minutes.

There are some terrific benefits of having a tan: looking slimmer, looking richer, and looking healthier. Anyone going to argue that point?

Another benefit for those with spider veins and the like is that a tan makes their appearance fade considerably. In fact, for many, tan legs open up the possibilities of wearing shorts, skorts, (my personal favorite,) skirts and capris in the warmer weather.

Spray tanning and magnetic tanning utilize no UV rays and offer a rich tan that few can cultivate by sun alone. It’s not cheap in terms of dollars but it is very cheap in terms of time and discomfort. (Often, a set of tanning sessions can be purchased at one time saving 50%.) There are two products that give great results.

The first is a spray tan; literally you are sprayed with a golden mist. The second uses Magnetan Technology. It consists of a fine mist that has a positive charge; the plate you stand on has a negative charge. Opposites attract. The mist is attracted to your body, not sprayed on to you as in the first example. The result for both applications is a very smooth, even, golden color. You can select the intensity of the color. The results last for several days (not quite a week.)

Here’s how to get the most bang for your buck:

• Shower and exfoliate before your “tanning session.”

• Remove all make-up and jewelry. Wear the garments that will give you the tan lines you seek – or none at all.

• Cover your hair with a “shower cap” – usually provided (and then discarded.)

• Cover your feet with booties or a thick layer of barrier cream.

• Apply a thick layer of cream to hands, especially cuticles.

• Stand with your feet, legs and arms apart, bend slightly at the knees.

• Keep eyes closed.

• Try to breathe as the spray is at your feet.

• Dry yourself vigorously as if you just got out of the shower.

• Don’t shower or bathe for 4-6 hours.

• Voila! You’re a gorgeous golden brown.
