The Monarch migration is an event not to be missed. Even if you are less of a fanatic that I am, the Monarch Grove Sanctuary Monarch Madness on November 28th in Pacific Grove is an event not to be missed.
Just off of Highway 1 in Monterey, almost 20,000 beautiful Monarch butterflies find shelter in a Eucalyptus grove from November to February. The Pacific Grove Museum hosts the Monarch Madness event every year.
While these amazing and vibrant creatures can be seen anytime from now to February, Monarch Madness on November 28th is a day of kids activities, butterfly gardening tips and other festivities.
There is plenty of reason to celebrate these little creatures. Monarch Butterflies are the only butterfly that migrates north and south like birds. What makes them so incredible though, is that the butterflies flying north are not the same as the ones flying south. It takes three or four generations of butterflies to make the entire migration from Mexico northward and back again. How do they do it? How does a the butterfly grandchild know where grandmother Monarch was born? This alone is worth some celebration. Life is amazing. These delicate creatures travel as far as 2000 miles, one hundred miles per day, and they can fly as high as 10,000 feet.
Come celebrate these amazing creatures, and see a tree lit up like stained glass with these orange and black beauties. It will be an educational and entrancing adventure for the whole family.
