The 2009 International Sportsmen's Expo gives Colorado anglers the chance to learn from the best
When the 32nd annual ISE comes to the Colorado Convention Center from January 22-January 25 and will give Colorado anglers the chance to learn from some of the best in the fly fishing industry. With two fly fishing theater venues, an aquarium demonstration tank and a fly casting pond for demonstrations there will be something for anglers of every skill level to learn. At this year’s expo two of the state’s foremost fly fishing experts on the South Platte River will be providing great seminars and demonstrations for those who plan to attend, Platte master Pat Dorsey and big trout magnet Landon Mayer.
Pat Dorsey is one of the leading authorities on the South Platte River and spends his time helping people learn her secrets. Pat is a Colorado native and has been guiding for over ten years spending over 200 days a year on the river both with and without clients. Not only a consummate angler, Dorsey is also an expert fly tier, and has been producing commercial flies for over 15 years. He is also the co-owner of the
Blue Quill Angler in Evergreen and manages guide operations. Pat has also created the
‘Fly of the Month Club’ which draws members internationally and provides them with several choice flies and tips on how to fish them. Pat is also the author of
‘A Fly Fishers Guide to the South Platte River’ which is, in my opinion, one of the best books on the topic of fishing the S. Platte and has also published several articles for Fly Fisherman and several other angling publications. I highly recommend checking out one of the presentations that Pat gives, his fly fishing knowledge is incredible and he is a pretty nice guy. Checking out one of his presentations is worth your time regardless of your skill level.

Colorado Springs guide, Landon Mayer, has been guiding for over ten years along the South Platte River. Landon has a passion and love of the sport of fly fishing that is incredible and makes him a great teacher on the river for the novice and expert alike. Landon is well known for his abilities to sight and catch extremely large trout which allowed him to produce the aptly titled
‘How to Catch the Biggest Trout of Your Life’, which helps the reader understand exactly what Landon does, big fish and how to catch them. Landon is has a great understanding of what it takes to catch the big ones and he is a great conveyor of this knowledge, I highly recommend checking out one of his presentations during the
