Next year Tim Burton is going to give us another bright colored fantasy that no doubt will cost the studios millions which will be a blend of Lewis Carol’s “Alice In Wonderland” and “Through The Looking Glass And what Alice found There”.
Alice, 17, attends a party at a Victorian estate only to find she is about to be proposed to in front of hundreds of snooty society types. Off she runs, following a white rabbit into a hole and ending up in Wonderland, a place she visited 10 years before yet doesn't remember.
Among those who welcome her back is the Mad Hatter, a part tailor-made for Johnny Depp as he collaborates with Burton for the seventh time. "This character is off his rocker," Zanuck says.
Aussie actress Mia Wasikowska, 19, (HBO's In Treatment) plays Alice. "There is something real, honest and sincere about her," Zanuck says. "She's not a typical Hollywood starlet."
Johnny Depp plays the Mad Hatter. Tim Burton and Johnny Depp worked hard to give the Mad Hatter more depth and presence than in past portrayals. In fact, the pair swapped sketches and themes for the character prior to creating this new version.
God I hope this doesn’t mean that he had a problem with his daddy. That seems to be the theme of a lot of Tim Burton live action films.
This film marks the 7th time Johnny Depp has worked under the direction of Tim Burton and the 6th time for Helena Bonham Carter.
I hope Jonny Depp doesn’t make the Madd Hatter as creepy as his character Willy Wonka.
The film will be coming to a theater near you on March 5, 2010.
