The bus driver who refused to drive a Des Moines area transit bus last week that had the above atheist ad on it has returned to work. Angela Shiel, refused to take over the bus, which had passengers on it and was in mid-route, because she felt the ads were against her religion. She was suspended from her job after the incident and faced termination.

Now Shiel is back at work with no guarantee that she will not be faced once again with the same "dilemma." Chances are that she could be assigned once again to a bus that carries the Iowa Atheists and Freethinkers (IAF) ad. There are reportedly 120 buses that she potentially could be assigned to, 20 of which have the ad on the side. But Shiel said, "'It’s a chance I have to take. …I like what I’m doing. I don’t want to start all over.'"

According to one report, Shiel said she would still not drive a bus with the ad on it. But if it comes up and she refuses, which she has said she will do, she will lose her job. According to the transit authority general manager, Brad Miller, "'We’re giving her a second chance. There’s no assurances that there might not be another ad she doesn’t agree with. There’s so many different things that go into that, there’s no way we can guarantee anything.”
