Pope Benedict XVI has been under fire recently for lifting the excommunication of Bishop Richard Williamson.

It was reported that it was only after the Pope reinstated Bishop Williamson that he became aware of Williamson's public denial of the Holocaust.

There is speculation as to why the Pope seemingly acted without consulting anyone. People are wondering if he is really so out of touch with what is going on in the world around him. How can a man in such a position do his job if he doesn't have a clue what is going on?

Perhaps this was an isolated oversight. Maybe he really is aware of what is going on outside the walls of the Vatican.

The good news is that the Pope is now calling for Williamson to"...absolutely, unequivocally and publicly distance himself' from statements denying the Shoah," according to a report on Yahoo! News.

The Pope seems to be putting himself constantly in the line of fire with controversial moves as he tries to restore traditionally Christianity to Europe and to rid it of it's more liberal influences.

Just last week, the Pope was embroiled in another controversy when he appointed, "without traditional consultation – a bishop in Linz, Austria, who had said that hurricane Katrina was divine retribution for sin, and a cleansing of nightclubs and abortion clinics."

It is scary that someone who is so seemingly out of touch is so revered by so many. But, perhaps, his continued ridiculousness will drive the wedge even further into Catholicism, which is the opposite of what he is trying to accomplish.
