Obama isn't Christian?

The Christian Anti-Defamation Commission (yes, it really exists) has determined that President-elect, Barack Obama, is not a Christian. On their Web site, they have an article titled Seven Reasons Barack Obama is not a Christian. Now, if you will forgive me, I must point out that after having reviewed what they have to say, I think the word “reasons” is misused. I think, perhaps, they should have used the word “proofs” instead. But, I digress.

Through their 7 Reasons Campaign they hope to expose that Obama is a liar. Their web site says:

Built on a foundation of radical Black Liberation Theology, theological liberalism and post-modernism, Obama is undermining historic, biblical Christianity while claiming his is a Christian. In the process, he is defaming the Christian faith.

By declaring he is a Christian, yet denying Christianities most essential truths and traditional morality, Obama is associating Christ with some of the most wicked practices imaginable, all of which are condemned in the Bible.

By any historic or biblical standard, Barack Obama is not a Christian.

That last sentence strikes me because as far as I can tell NO ONE living today is Christian “by any historic or biblical standards.”

The group is calling for Obama to “repent and turn to Christ and His word.” They seem to feel that Obama has a responsibility to the citizens of America to do so. They believe that “Americans expect their leaders to embody Judeo-Christian ideals and beliefs, so it is important for Obama to be perceived as a practicing Christian.” I guess they missed the memo that there are quite a few Americans who are not Christian.

Here are the "reasons" listed on their Web site along with the videos that accompany the reasons.

Reason #1: Obama Believes There Are Many Paths to Heaven

Reason #2: Obama Denies the Authority of the Bible

Reason #3: Obama Supports Homosexuality

Reason #4: Obama Supports Abortion

Reason #5: Obama Affirms Muslim Prayer

Reason #6: Obama is Associated with Black Liberation Theology

Reason #7: Obama Has No Bona Fide Christian Testimony

Let me end this by saying that Obama’s religious affiliation should not play a role in his duties as the president of the United States and should therefore be a nonissue. Why can’t people get past their delusions of grandeur to realize that the Constitution, which an incoming president swears an oath to preserve, defend, and protect, was set forth, in part, to establish (in the words of Thomas Jefferson) a “wall of separation between church and state.” As long as he does his job, it shouldn’t matter what he believes. Recent history shows us what happens when a president allows his judicial judgment to be clouded by his religious beliefs and I think we’ve had more than enough of that.
