It is a sad day for the Travolta family as they mourn the death of their 16-year-old son, Jett. It was reported that he had a seizure and hit his head on the bathtub while the family was on holiday in the Bahamas. The boy was supposed to have had Kawasaki Disease that he developed at the age of two. An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
When I first heard the news, I immediately felt bad for John and Kelly. As a parent, I can only imagine the devastation they must be experiencing. After a bit of time, I will admit, my mind went to the thought that I hope they weren’t keeping medication from the boy as a result of their Scientology following. I felt a bit caddy for thinking of this, but on the other hand, it is no secret that I am pro-child and am always outraged when children are made to suffer for their parent’s beliefs.
I am not saying that this was the case with the Travoltas, but I can’t help but wonder. Apparently, I am not the only one who has pondered the question. A report on CBS News’ Web site made a similar statement. The report says:
It is unclear whether Jett was taking any medications for his seizures.
It was speculated, only moments ago on MSNBC, that the boy did not, in fact, have Kawasaki Disease, rather he was Autistic. It has been said that not only do those who are diagnosed with Kawasaki Disease not have seizures but that 80% of those afflicted with the disease are under the age of 5. Supposedly, Autism is not something that is recognized as real by Scientologists. Is it possible that the boy had been ignorantly misdiagnosed? If so, it stands to reason that the boy would not have been treated for what really ailed him.
There is also some controversy surrounding the circumstances leading up to the boy’s death. It is said that he went into the bathroom at 10:00 in the evening and was not discovered until the following morning at approximately 10:00 am. I will be keeping an eye on this story as it unravels.
No matter what speculations may be, my heart goes out to Jett’s family during this time of grief.
