It was reported that US District Judge Robert Gettleman overturned a ruling that allowed for a moment of silence in Illinois schools. It was deemed to be an unconstitutional imposition of religion in the school setting.

Apparently there was a ban put on the moment of silence back in May of 2008 after a complaint was filed by Buffalo High School student, Dawn Sherman and her father, who is reportedly an atheist activist, Rob Sherman.

As of today, the ban is permanent.

According to the report, Venetia Miles, spokesperson for Township High School District 214, said:

This has just brought closure for everyone, for all the districts in the state of Illinois.
