New York, here we come!
In the last World Series related column, the series was just getting underway. This evening, it is do or die for our fighting phils in game 6 of this exciting Fall classic series.
Tonight, the Phillies will be tested like never before, against a strong New York Yankees team that has been in this many times before. All the work in the gym and on the field has culminated in this opportunity to make history for this team.
A virtual tour of the team's awesome training facility was promised for this week's column, and so here it is for your enjoyment. Scott Sheridan directs this 2008 tour which shows the indoor training facility where our Phillies stretch and do their functionally geared weight training.
This author can't help but think that Chase Utley, Jayson Werth and Ryan Howard, among others on the team have been hitting the weight room pretty hard over this past season. As these guys continue to train, play and get stronger, it will be exciting to see how far they can go in the future.
Let's face it, weight training has become not only accepted by all the major sports in recent history, it has become ingrained into the training routines of all of them, and rightfully so.
Wise trainers now realize the value weight training has in keeping players injury free and in increasing their strength and ultimate longevity in their sports. Gone are the days when weight lifting was frowned upon and was said to make it's practitioners "muscle bound" or slow.
Let's all enjoy tonight's game and hopefully tomorrow night's game and keep the faith.
In a way, your author can't wait until this is all over so I can start getting back into my normal sleep routine. These late night week night games have been taking a toll on a lot of us fans. Monday night's game in Philadelphia was a real nail biter for those last 2 innings, and I felt like that aged me about 10 years. I suspect after tonight's game, I'll be a senior citizen.
Go Phillies!!!!!
