"The Rest" of the field

The 2009 season finale produced a ton of championship drama, but little else.  In one respect, the absence of a caution, that's not necessarily a bad thing.  This year's Indy 500 could have used more green flag racing..

Other than that, though, this was a three-car race all day, with as big of a gap in compettition that most fans have seen in a long time.  Considering the fact that Ed Carpenter, Alex Lloyd and Graham Rahal started 4-6th and did not seem THAT far off, this was a bit of a surprise.

Throughout the year, other teams seemed to have closed the gap on ovals.  Maybe that's still true, but Homestead was a rude awakening to every team not named Ganassi or Penske.

Handling mattered on Saturday, due in part to the near 90 degree heat.  The championship contenders utterly outclassed everyone else at the 1.5 mile oval, lapping everyone else at least once.  Tony Kanaan's fourth place finish was "best of the rest."  Teammate Danica Patrick ran fairly well until a pit road collision with Dan Wheldon.  Given that, and the fact that the likes of Moraes and Rahal were well behind, AGR was, for one week, once again the third best team in IndyCar.
