        California Cougar Convention

Some think cougar dating is a fad. Others realize that the trend is here to stay.

At the California Cougar Convention held in Beverly Hills on Saturday November 6, 2009, cougar-mania was alive and well.

According to Lucia, the "Queen of the Cougar Jungle," the cougar movement is growing in popularity. And she should know. A cougar herself, Lucia teaches the art of being a cougar. She claims that cougar women have come out of the dark. She calls it “The Cougar Revolution” and credits Demi Moore for being one of the first to make marrying a younger man acceptable.

What exactly is the definition of a Cougar?

In order to be a cougar, you must be a woman over 40 who exclusively dates men 10 years younger or more.

At the event in Beverly Hills, Lucia listed ten reasons to date a cougar and described the 10 characteristics of a cougar. 

  10 Characteristics of a Cougar

1.  Confidence – A cougar woman knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to let you know.
2.  Sex – A cougar woman has a high sex drive. She will rock your world.
3.  Money – She has her own and doesn’t expect you to pay for everything.
4.  Little to no drama – She won’t call you or text 20 times a day and ask why you didn’t call.
5.  Life Experiences – She’s been there and done that and is socially sexually savvy.
6.  More Interesting – She is well travelled and has a lot to talk about.
7.  No Pressure – She’s not trying to get married and have children.
8.  Responsible – She follows through and keeps her word.
9.  Understanding – She understands a man needs to feel like a hero.
10.  THE TOTAL PACKAGE – She has her act together mentally, physically, spiritually, emotionally, and sexually.

The California Cougar Conference included an ice-breaker with Rapid Dating’s Renee Piane. There appeared to be more “Cubs” than “Cougars” in attendance, but everyone seemed to be having a good time.

Several online dating sites have joined in on the popular trend, including Cougared.com, DateACougar.com, GoCougar.com,  CougarInternational, CougarPersonals.org, and iCougarDating.com to name a few.

According to Lucia, the term “Cougar” originated in Canada in the locker room of the Vancouver Canucks hockey team, where one of the NHL players, started calling older female fans, Cougars.
