Skiing is expensive. For many people, money is hard enough to come by for skiing and snowboarding at resorts, and the cost of getting lift tickets for kids can force many families to stay home during the winter. In addition, military members who have given up their careers to serve our country can find themselves in difficult financial times when back in the U.S. Luckily, SkiUtah is making it easier for the military and families to get on the slopes by offering deals on passes to Utah resorts.

The Fifth Grade Ski and Snowboard Passport, and the Sixth Grade SnowPass will allow kids to ski free at each of Utah's resorts.

For fifth graders getting the Passport, that means free skiing or snowboarding at each of Utah's 13 resorts for a total of 39 days.

For sixth graders who get the SnowPass, that means one day of free skiing or snowboarding at each of Utah's resorts for a total of 13 days this season.

Both deals include special deals on gear rentals, lessons and other activities. There is also a one-time $25 processing fee for each 5th grade Passport( $35 after January 31st) and for the 6th grade SnowPass it's $20 ($30 after January 31st.)

For military members, a few mountains in Utah have created special rates for the men and women who defend our country and (hopefully) have a season off to ski or snowboard on the best snow in the world. Below is a list of all the Utah resorts offering discounted season passes.

Alta: $599 Season Pass - Includes access to Alta's lifts and Nordic tracks. No blackout dates. May be used as a bus pass on all UTA Ski Bus routes. 20% off ski tuning and wax at the Alta ski shop until 12/31/09. Able to Upgrade to an AltaSnowbird day pass for $32.

Brighton: $599 Season Pass - Military spouses are also eligible for the discounted rate. Must provide marriage certificate.

Snowbasin: $525 Season Pass - Both active duty and retired Military are eligible.

Snowbird: $629 Tram and Chairs Season Pass
$499 Chairs Only Season Pass - Both passes only for active Military. Only Tram and Chairs pass can be used to upgrade to an AltaSnowbird day pass.

In order to quality for these special season pass prices, service men and women must bring proof that they are active duty or retired military. Each resort has different rules pertaining to their Military programs, including additional discounts for family. Check out the resort's websites for more information.

To sign up for both the Utah Fifth Grade Passport and Utah Sixth Grade SnowPass, find more information on military discounts, or keep tabs on any other deals on ski passes, tickets, and lodging, go to www.skiutah.com.
