Game of year could be Prototype.

Of all the games released this year, Activison could receive two awards for best game of the year.  One for the much anticipated release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and the other for Prototype.

From the moment the game began, it has a way of sucking you in, be it a very dark and gruesome way.  The developers definitely had a mature rating in mind from day one, and if there was an NC-17 rating for video games, this would receive that rating.  Parents should be very aware that if your early or pre-teen has this game, repossession may be a good idea.    From the foulest of language, on a moment to moment basis, to the most gruesome, shocking, bloody game play one can experience, this game has too much for the young, or faint at heart.  I personally have a family of gamers, and this game was played after the kids were fast asleep.

Playing as Alex Mercer, you battle two forces, the infected and the military.  The infected are the hoards of people or things that have contracted a virus released on Manhattan Island.   Alex himself is infected, but in a special way.  Therefor the police and military are after him as well.   Through the game, in third person view, roaming the entire island of New York City in a free roam set up, Alex uses a variety of viral attacks that often impale, dismember, decapitate, or split apart his foes.  Not only is he a weapon, but he can use weapons like rocket launchers, machine guns, and even helicopters and tanks. The campaign is not the only attraction.  There are events unlocked across the map that challenge the gamers skills in combat, movement and ability to inflict mass carnage.

The one thing that sets this game aside from others is the fluidity of movement and ability to control your character.  Once the controls are given a few rounds of practice, gamers will find the entire scope of the game exciting and satisfying.

There is so much more to write about such a fantastic game, but I refuse to give away any of the secrets Prototype holds, down to the last Boss( who's mother would be proud). With a replayability level off the charts, I would give this game a solid 10, the highest i have ever bestowed.  Pick this game up and enjoy the mass carnage.  Once again, this game is not for kids. If you don't think the M rating is serious, watch the opening credits and the first mission of the game.
