If you have thought about going to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico’s most popular gay destination, now may be the time.
According to MarketWatch.com, airfares to Puerto Vallarta over the Labor Day period are down 27% compared with last year and room rates in Vallarta are down 9%.
Cancun has been even harder hit. Airfares have plunged 31%, while room rates are down 15%.
Both cities have been spared the drug violence that has plagued border towns and the swine flu, which hit Mexico City hard. But they have suffered from the public perception that, unfortunately, tends to paint Mexico with a very broad brush. Or course, avoiding Puerto Vallarta or Cancun makes about as much sense as avoiding Cape Cod because of violence in Detroit.
Travelocity's Genevieve Brown told MarketWatch: "Internationally, airfare will continue to be good value into the fall, and I encourage people to go, and it's better now with less crowds."
