Are you planning on celebrating America’s Independence Day in Mexico? You will have to do it dry.
Sunday, July 4, is election day in Mexico. By law, liquor can’t be sold in the 24 hours before polls open. That means bars and nightclubs will be closed on Saturday, July 4. The bars will finally reopen on Sunday night, July 5.
Restaurants will remain open through the weekend but will not be allowed to serve alcohol, according to Puerto Vallarta's Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The last time Mexico held a general election was in 2006. For more info on the election, click here for an article in Mexidata.info.
At least one gay bar in Puerto Vallarta is Puerto Vallarta is announcing a great pre-closing special on Friday night.
The following is a posting from Club Manana's Web site:
Sunday July 5 is election day in Puerto Vallarta and by law there are no liquor sales with 24 hours of the polls opening. Therefore, sadly, we are closed Saturday night. We thought that kinda sucked so we decided to get crazy for the weekend.
